[Nix-dev] MANIFEST?

Stupid question: I am updating a checked-out SVN package tree. I can
build a package using nix-build. Now how do I create the symlinks to
the binaries in /nix/store/? Adding the package tree as a channel
does not work since there is no up-to-date MANIFEST. I had a look at
nix-push, but it is not clear how I should use that.

What do you do on a local system - building, testing and installing a
package?
