In fact, I don't think this issue would affect nixOS because those file
paths wouldn't exist.

since the configure script is looking for a library in a certain
location (and that location wouldn't exist in nixOS) - libraries such as
libbsd wouldn't be sucked in from the host system.

I guess this is a situation where the *presence* of a particular file
systems breaks the build.

You're running nix on another distro (not nixos), right?
