1. During guile-1.9 testing conversations, you have promised to
deprecate __overrides somewhen.

2. deepOverrides will become cleaner once the next version of Nix gets
stable. It can be used not only for package-valued arguments. That means
 possibility of Gentoo-style "use flags" with local overrides if needed.

3. Your "cleaner" solution doesn't seem to nest properly.
