I've uploaded my two patches

  - arbitrary strings as names in attrs (Marc Weber)
    maybe needs some more documentation and review
    (works fine for me)

    incomplete, needs documentation

    This may be useful for people writing much nix code wondering what's
    going wrong in some cases.
