To me this looks clearly like poppler issue. My evince renders it 
essentially same as zathura. The fact that pages are empty in okular is 
IMO due to interacting with worse bitmap scaling (than in e.g. evince, 
which is one reason why I use both alternatives). I see no dependency of 
mupdf on poppler.
